Objectives
The ELEONET project aims at creating an European metadata repository of Learning Objects (LOs) for easy and unified access to educational resources.
This key objective will be reached by exploiting all the advantages given by the DOI identification system.
To enforce the exchange of educational resources at European level, ELEONET will implement a new DOI application profile allowing content producers to assign DOIs and related metadata to their LOs in compliance with a
schema interoperable with the existing standards.
To facilitate LO producers to enter the system, thus disseminating their content at European level, a user friendly editor for LOs metadata will be accessible on line through ELEONET website.
To enable learning communities to easily access the content required, a specific search engine will be available in five European languages, allowing both simple and advanced search by widely accepted criteria: educational level, subject, type of use, age range, etc.
Therefore, the final system will provide:
- A common interface to allow LOs producers to register the DOIs and to upload metadata
- A search engine for final users (schools, students, teachers, universities) to retrieve LOs searching on DOIs and related metadata database
- A single access point with a search interface, including simple and advanced-search facilities, based on the uploaded metadata
- A resolution system, based on DOI technology, to reach multiple repositories
