The ELEONET (European Learning Objects Network) project aims to create an European catalogue of Learning Objects (LOs) metadata accessible by schools, teachers, and students for immediate retrieval and re-use of educational content.
Digital educational resources available through the ELEONET catalogue will be persistently identified using the DOI (Digital Object Identifier), the international standard for managing any Intellectual Property in a digital environment.
The ELEONET system will include:
- A multilingual search engine to allow learning communities and lifelong learners to search the DOIs and related educational metadata database.
- A web editor allowing content producers to easily create DOIs and related LO metadata according to a metadata schema interoperable with the existing standards.
By offering an effective solution for standard identification and metadata management, ELEONET will provide added value both to content producers - gaining the opportunity to disseminate their LOs at European level - and learning communities - gaining a search-facility for the content they require.
ELEONET, funded in the framework of eTEN programme by EU Commission, started on January 1st 2006 and will close at the end of June 2007 with the release of the final version of the system.
